British virtual band Gorillaz are set to release their upcoming LP, Humanz, on April 28th, 2017. Roughly ahead of time, Gorillaz released four singles from the album: “Andromeda,” “Saturnz Barnz,” “Ascension,” and “We Got the Power.” Each of these singles have the sound that should excite almost all music lovers for the new album.
“Andromeda,” the tenth track on Humanz, features German-born American hip-hop arist D.R.A.M. The track has an infectiously catchy sound and a smooth, chilling atmosphere. I especially like how the song starts with the simple drum beat and the bass melody, and how both work extremely well together to induce such a gripping sound that you just can’t skip over. The vocal performances are well done, and the vibrato lead synths complement the vocals, resulting in an overall respectable song worthy of having on repeat.
“Saturnz Barnz,” Humanz’s fourth track, features Jamaican rapper Popcaan. His vocal delivery is extremely well done and it really defines the song. “Saturnz Barnz” has a laid-back vibe and a heavy beat that should leave listeners bobbing their head with their hood up and headphones blasting (okay maybe not that loudly, you should protect your hearing.) The music video is also a fully-featured virtual reality experience and is most certainly worth checking out.
“Ascension,” the second track on the album, hears American rapper Vince Staples. It’s a short track but is full of action, which starts off with an air raid siren before breaking out with a pacey chorus. Unsurprisingly, the song does everything right again, from the rapping delivery, to the backing vocals, right down to the crisp instrumental.
“We Got the Power” is the last track on the album and features rock band Savages lead singer, Jehnny Beth. It’s a short and uplifting track with a positive message. Jehnny Beth does a particularly good job with her performance, singing and shouting her lyrics.
Humanz is going to be a huge release. It’s twenty tracks big, plus six more for the deluxe edition. The current released four singles from the album should be enough for music lovers to get excited for the virtual band’s new album.
