Imagine Dragons “Believer” is a raucous single whose contagious energy should be familiar with fans of the eccentric band. The multi-musical troupe pushes out a massive stomper, with front man Dan Reynolds sounding right in his groove. Clocking in at under 3;30, this catchy number pulls just enough stops to remind the musical world that Imagine Dragons is here to play.
The song rolls out steadily with a bass-laden clapper, making way for the band as they begin murmuring melodically. Fans might be a little underwhelmed by the first few bars, especially if singles such as “Demons” and “Radioactive” are your standard for Imagine Dragons pop hits.
However, the chorus hits in usual Imagine Dragons force, which is where the song truly shines. The band sounds triumphant here, with a war cry chorus that will boost the morale of any listener.
As a single, “Believer” is solid, with the band sounding right in their element. This song is, however, by no means representative of what Imagine Dragons can do.
In some ways, it is arguable that “Believer” is merely recycling the best of their previous singles, blending them together and churning out a new single for the sake of releasing a lead single from the upcoming new album. As a result, listeners may feel the song is a little lacking and not risky enough, which is fair if you understand just how high the band can aim with their music. Put simply, there is just not enough spectacular elements going on in “Believer.”
We find “Believer” to be quite safe in terms of Imagine Dragon’s standards. However, we also know that Imagine Dragons is one of the more talented multi-genre bands today. “Believer” is just enough to offer us some hype for their new music, and we look forward to hearing their new album.
